Kelsey O’Brian

  • Kelsey O’Brien is an undergraduate senior majoring in microbiology in the UF College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. She has been volunteering in the Shands Student Dental Clinics since fall 2013. In summer 2014, she began working with Dr. Luciana Shaddox in her research project involving children diagnosed with aggressive periodontal disease. Since then she has assisted in creating a computerized map of the processed samples and digitally organizing data for several studies.
  • Kelsey is particularly interested in the role of microbial shift diseases as a factor in dental health and hopes to explore this field in her future career. She plans to gain experience by working as a dental assistant next year before applying to dental schools. When she isn’t at Shands or Library West, her hobbies include traveling, fishing and diving, and spending time in the kitchen.
