Lina Ramirez

Lina Ramirez2013 Summer Research Student

Class of 2017, University of Florida College of Dentistry

Lina Ramirez graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Biology. During her undergraduate studies, she worked as a student researcher on The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis and completed an undergraduate honors thesis project entitled, “Spatially and Temporally Altered PDE 1A in Descending Locomotor Systems after Spinal Cord Injury”. She also worked as a summer researcher at Brown University investigating the mechanism of C-type natriuretic peptide receptors in rat lung. She presented the results from her research studies at international conferences.

As an incoming first year dental student, she was selected to participate in the 2013 Summer Research Program. She worked with Dr. Luciana Shaddox on a project comparing the cytokine response to bacterial stimulation of toll-like receptor (TLR-4) in African-American children with localized aggressive periodontitis and their matched healthy controls.

Currently, Lina is in the DMD program at the University of Florida and will graduate in 2017.
